HOSTED BY: Kevin Richardson, Brad DiNunzio, and Lauren Hall
This month, our employee spotlight is on one of our owners, Paul Hardin. He has dedicated 25 years to growing Moulton & Hardin, guiding the business with expertise, vision, and a commitment to service. This feature explores his journey from UGA graduate to President, and the values that continue to shape his work.
A Bulldog at Heart
Growing up in Albany, Georgia, Paul Hardin set his sights on one goal early—becoming a Georgia Bulldog. In 1998, he graduated from the University of Georgia, where he was active in student government and fraternity life. Today, that legacy continues as his oldest son begins his own journey as a freshman at UGA. Go Dawgs!
Rock & Roll Roots
Music has always been part of Paul’s life. After unwrapping a Les Paul electric guitar at Christmas in seventh grade, he formed a band with friends and played shows around Albany. In college, he occasionally performed solo acoustic sets at Athens bars. Years later, during the pandemic, he returned to his passion by forming a local band with fellow Athens-area professionals. The group continues to play across North Georgia.
All-Around Athlete
Sports were another constant in Paul’s youth. Baseball and basketball, football and track, Paul was active in sports while attending Deerfield-Windsor School—a place especially meaningful to his family, as his mother taught kindergarten there for over 40 years. The school remains close to Paul’s heart and is one of Moulton & Hardin’s valued clients.
Family First
Outside of work, Paul’s greatest joy is his family. He has three children who keep life lively: an 18-year-old son and UGA freshman, a 16-year-old daughter active in cheerleading, and an 11-year-old son who loves playing baseball, football, and basketball. For Paul, family time is the perfect balance to a busy professional life.
From Rookie to President
Paul’s professional path began at MetLife in Atlanta, where he completed an intensive training program and worked as an employee benefits representative. In 2000, he joined his father, David Hardin, at Moulton & Hardin and quickly began building client relationships. By 2005, he saw an opportunity to expand into payroll services to help clients avoid compliance pitfalls. That decision not only solved problems for customers but also laid the foundation for a strong partnership with UKG. Today, as President, Paul celebrates 25 years with the company and continues to build on its legacy of service and innovation.
At Moulton & Hardin, Inc., our story has always been about people — our employees, our clients, the communities we serve, and our vision forward.
We’ve built a reputation as a boutique firm that combines world-class HCM technology with expert benefits consulting. With UKG Ready at the core, our future focus is clear:

Paul says, "None of this is possible without our foundation — our employees. Their dedication, care, and expertise are what make M&H more than a service provider; they make us a trusted partner. I am deeply grateful for the hard work and heart they provide every day. The future of M&H is bright. Together, we will continue to create solutions that empower businesses and uplift employees. M&H not just a workplace, but a family."
We are proud to spotlight Paul’s leadership, story, and commitment to both family and community in this issue of our newsletter.

Staying I-9 Compliant
What Employers Need to Know
Ensuring your workforce is eligible to work in the U.S. isn’t just good practice—it’s the law. Immigration Customs & Enforcement) may inspect your I-9 forms upon three days' notice. Neither your consent nor a search warrant is required.
Here’s what every employer should know about I-9 and ICE audits:
Why Audits Happen
Random selection
Complaints or referrals
Hiring patterns that raise red flags
What ICE Looks For
Complete Forms: All fields filled out correctly.
Timely Submission: Section 1 on the first day of employment; Section 2 within 3 business days.
Proper Document Verification: Original, acceptable documents examined in person.
Retention: Keep I-9s for 3 years after hire or 1 year after termination, whichever is later.
Consistency: Names, dates, and document info must match across records.
Common Pitfalls
Missing or incomplete forms
Using photocopies instead of originals (unless allowed)
Retaining outdated forms
Failing to correct errors properly
Best Practices for Employers
Audit Regularly: Catch issues before ICE does.
Standardize Processes: Consistent completion, review, and storage of I-9s.
Document Everything: Keep records of corrections and employment status changes.
Train HR Staff: Ensure understanding of I-9 rules and verification.
Stay Current: Always use the latest USCIS I-9 forms.
Potential Penalties
Paperwork Errors: $250–$2,500 per form
Hiring Unauthorized Workers: $2,292–$23,000 per individual; repeat violations can lead to higher fines or criminal charges
Treat I-9 compliance like any other critical HR responsibility: audit proactively, document carefully, train consistently, and always use current forms to protect your company and workforce.
